Is it for me?
Grim, wide-open Westerns about the cost of settling the frontier are the right match, and Yellowstone fans get the Duttons' earlier chapter. Elsa narrates the trip in voice-over, which splits viewers; some find it the emotional centre. Sam Elliott plays Brennan with grief held tight, and early on the wagons reach a river they cannot cross while winter closes in.
Before you start
The first two episodes spend their time on setting out and trail hardships, so give them room; the back half moves harder.
1 season, 10 episodes, 56 min each, about 9 hours so far
