Is it for me?
Families with older kids and adults who like a scare next to a joke will get the most out of it, since the frights are real. In one story Charles Dickens stands in a Cardiff funeral parlour in 1869 while corpses rise in a glowing blue gas. Christopher Eccleston plays the Doctor as a restless survivor who bursts into joy, then goes silent.
Before you start
Season one swings between silly and grim, so give it time; the tone settles from season two.
