Is it for me?
Period-drama fans who want scale without sermons will find a character-first telling here. Ali Suliman plays Saul as a man who sleeps badly and trusts no one, and the show gives his nightmares as much room as its battles. David soothes his wounded brother Eliab on the harp while Saul suffers another one. Stephen Lang's Samuel lends the story its weight.
Before you start
The middle episodes lean on court politics and family scheming, and the biggest battle waits for the season finale, so give it patience.
2 seasons, 16 episodes, 56 min each, about 15 hours so far
