Is it for me?
Crime drama for viewers who like their detectives volatile and their villains charming. Idris Elba plays Luther as obsessive and sometimes violent, and he keeps a gangster chained to a radiator while he chases justice. Ruth Wilson matches him line for line across an interrogation table, and their duels give the series its pull.
Before you start
Each series is a few linked cases rather than one a week, and the two-episode fourth run moves faster than the rest.
