Is it for me?
Trek fans who like their franchise teased with love will settle in, and so will newcomers who just want fast jokes. Tendi is thrilled to hold a heart on her first day aboard, and Boimler's eagerness to impress officers keeps backfiring. Tawny Newsome plays Mariner with a quick, cocky edge.
Before you start
The first few episodes are loud and joke-dense; the show settles once the ensigns feel like people, about a third into season one.
