The Day of the Jackal

Thriller fans who want a polished chase with action set pieces, not a slow character study, get exactly that. The Jackal works like a contractor; he wounds a candidate's son so the father comes to the hospital, then fires from far away. Later he demands a $500,000 retainer before he takes the next job. Eddie Redmayne plays him cold, and the disguises tip between fun and silly.

The chase is steady, but the middle episodes spend a lot of time on both leads' home lives, which is where it slows.
