The Penguin

Gangster-drama viewers who want grit over capes are the ones to send here, since Batman never turns up. Oz catches a teenager stealing his car wheels, threatens him, then talks him into the job, and you see how he recruits. Colin Farrell disappears under the makeup and voice, and Cristin Milioti commands every scene Sofia walks into.

It starts slow and deliberate, then turns meaner and more personal as it goes, so give the first episodes some patience.
