Is it for me?
Viewers who like grown-up political drama more than monster-of-the-week fun will settle in, and newcomers to Doctor Who lose nothing. Russell Tovey plays Barclay as a man out of his depth who keeps talking anyway. One scene has him negotiating with them over what humans have dumped in the water. Gugu Mbatha-Raw is a highlight as Salt, the sea people's ambassador.
Before you start
It is one continuous story rather than separate cases, so watch in order; the first episode moves fast and the rest build on it.
