Is it for me?
Viewers who want grim, issue-driven British drama and can take real violence on screen will know within minutes if this is theirs. The camera stays close and plain, like documentary footage, so an attack with a kettle filled with sugar is shown without any flourish. Sean Bean plays Mark small and frightened, all hesitation and no bluster, while Stephen Graham keeps Eric tightly restrained.
Before you start
The first series is three tight episodes; the second moves to a women's prison with a new cast, so treat it as a fresh start.
3 seasons, 9 episodes, 60 min each, about 9 hours so far
